Sodefor invited to present its experience in Sustainable Forest Management at the 20th Meeting of the Parties (MOP20) of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) on 31 May 2024

The 20th Meeting of the Parties of the CBFP took place in Kinshasa from 31 May to 5 June 2024 and welcomed more than 500 members with the objective of promoting the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of the forest ecosystems of the Congo Basin. This event is organized by the Co-Facilitation of the French and Gabonese Republics of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), which is a 128-member initiative serving as a platform for multi-sectoral dialogue on forest preservation. The CBFP works closely with the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC), the regional body responsible for guiding and harmonizing forest and environmental policies.

Sodefor, being a key player in the protection of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin, was invited to present its experience in Sustainable Management in the forests of the DRC in the Youth Forum for the Forests of Central Africa on entrepreneurship and the private sector for the preservation of forests. This Forum precedes the three intense days of the Meeting of the Parties, with the objective of highlighting the link between youth mobilization and the preservation of forest ecosystems, the facilitation of exchanges between committed young people from civil society and representatives of States of international research organizations and the private sector involved in the preservation of forests and the environment, and developing innovative ideas and proposals for forest protection to be included in this meeting of the Parties to strengthen the influence of young people on decision-making.

Challenges, perspectives and opportunities for green entrepreneurship aimed at preserving the forests of the Congo Basin were shared by Sodefor with the participants followed by a question-and-answer session which gave rise to a very enriching debate, especially for the hundreds of young people engaged in the issues of forest protection and environmental preservation present in the room.
