Kinshasa, 2024 October 1st

Sodefor has been a partner of ERAIFT since the beginning of 2023.

This partnership is mainly focused on training in the field of forestry, scientific research, recruitment, communication and social issues in general.

This Regional School has the status of a UNESCO Category 2 Centre.

It is as part of a training module in tropical forestry associating students from Gembloux and those from ERAIFT that Sodefor was invited to speak to these 30 students from the two institutions, on the Sustainable Development of forests in the DRC.

The session with these young people was opened by the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to the Democratic Republic of Congo, followed by a presentation on the landscape approach in the context of Global Gateway and NaturAfrica by the representatives of the Environment Unit of the European Union in Kinshasa.

The representative of the Sodefor group presented practical examples to these young scientists, professors and representatives of the European Union on the implementation of the management plans of Sodefor and Forabola, its advanced traceability system for the Sodefor group's forest products, the implementation of the social clauses of the specifications, the impact of the group's actions in the fields of education, health, the environment and finally, on its initiative to convert a large part of its exploitation concessions into conservation concessions to contribute to global actions to combat climate change.

To close this very instructive afternoon for these young people, a question-and-answer session was organized to give these future professionals as much information as possible on the challenges, opportunities, difficulties and prospects of the forestry sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
