Angola, 14-16 avril 2025

SODEFOR as a representative of the DRC's formal private forestry sector at the International Scientific Conference on the Forests of the Congo Basin in Cabinda/Angola

From April 14 to 16, 2025, Sodefor took part in the International Scientific Conference on Congo Basin Forests, organized in Cabinda, Angola, by the France Embassy in Luanda and the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). The three-day event brought together various actors committed to the preservation of this vital ecosystem, representing governments, civil society, researchers and the private sector.

The conference began with an immersion in the Maiombe Forest, in Buco Zau, where participants were able to discover a unique biodiversity and flora, distinct from other countries in the Congo Basin. This visit highlighted Angolan initiatives for the protection of the forest and its biodiversity, in particular the Maiombe National Park, supported by the Ministry of the Environment, which works for the conservation of elephants and chimpanzees and so many other biodiversity.

The following days were devoted to rich and inspiring scientific exchanges, bringing together experts and representatives from all the countries of the Congo Basin, including a strong delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Ministry of the Environment, INERA researchers, the NGO APEM and the private sector, represented by the company SODEFOR, have all contributed to the debates on sustainable forest management.

uring his speech, SODEFOR shared his journey and his commitment to sustainable forest management for several decades. It highlighted its social impact on local communities in the DRC's forest provinces, its support for socio-economic development, job creation, respect for gender equality and its pioneering role in the energy transition of the forest sector. The company also presented the company KFBS, which focuses on forest conservation, agroforestry and renewable energy.

Another project presented by SODEFOR was an initiative to use music as a tool for the integration of Indigenous peoples that caught the attention of the hundreds of people present at the conference. Its novelty and uncommon nature in the forestry sector aroused great interest among the participants

This conference marked a turning point in collaborations with Angola, opening up new and promising perspectives for strengthening efforts for the sustainable management and conservation of African forests through the exchange of experiences and good practices. SODEFOR has asserted itself as a key player in these discussions, determined to actively contribute to the preservation of forests and a more sustainable future for the region.
